Work Order - Type

Data Source: PFWTAB

The Work Order - Type screen can be accessed by clicking on the Search icon next to the Type field throughout the Service system.

The Work Order - Type screen allows you to search for and select a type code from the list to apply to the selected work order.

Note:  The Search icon next to the type field will only appear if valid type codes are loaded on the Types screen.

When adding a ‘Type’ to a Work Order Segment, the list populated to choose from is determined by the Make of the stock number attached to the WO and the Rate Code used. There are two tables that can be configured in order to determine the list of Types:

Make/Type Correlation

This associates an equipment Make to a work order Type. An entry in this table for a particular Make will result in that equipment Make determining the selectable work order Types. If there’s no record for a particular Make in this table, then equipment with that Make can be used on a work order with any valid work order Type.

Rates (Rate/Type Correlation)

The RATES table was initially designed to create rate codes to control labor rates but has been expanded to allow for the association of the Rate code to a work order Type. An entry in this table for a particular Rate code will result in that Rate code determining the selectable work order Types. If a Rate code in this table has no associated work order Types, then any valid Type can be used on a work order with that Rate code. The Rate/Type correlation works in both directions, so if the Type is selected first, that Type will determine the selectable Rate codes and if the Rate code is selected first, that Rate code will determine the selectable Types.

If these tables are configured with different types, the system will try to find matches between the lists and these will be the Types listed in the WO segment area. If there are no matches, no Types will be listed.

If one of the tables is not used at all (no types added to them), the system will populate all types from the other table into the Type list.

If a Type is added to the segment before a Rate Code, the Rate Code selection will adjust based on the Type selected.

If a Rate Code is added to the segment before a Type, the Type selection will adjust based on the Rate Code selected.

There’s also a branch level edit check for work order types in the CMBR3 table - VALIDATE W/O TYPE & REASON (Y/N). Setting this switch to ‘Y’ makes the Type field (and Reason field) mandatory on a work order.

Example:
Types - 1A / 1B / 1C / 1D / 1E / 1F / 1G
Make/Type Correlation - Make JD links to Types 1A / 1B / 1C
Rate/Type Correlation - Rate code X links to Types 1B / 1C / 1D / 1E

Note:  On a work order with a JD make stock number where rate code X has been specified, only Types 1B and 1C will be selectable.

The following is a description of the search field that appears on the Work Order - Type screen:
