Printer File

The name of the printer device. For non-spooled output, this field is used to identify the printer device used to produce the printed output.

• *SYSVAL—the system uses the QKBDTYPE system value.
• *Job—uses the printer device specified in the job description.

For Spooled output, the file is placed on the output queue determined by the Spooled Output Queue parameter.

The type of data stream created for the printer file. Valid device types are:

• *SCS—an SNA character stream (SCS) is created. This device type must be selected when using SCS or work station printers. If *SCS is selected and the spooled printer file is directed to an IPDS* printer, the system converts the SCS printer file to emulate an IPDS printer file.
• *IPDS—an intelligent printer data stream* (IPDS*) is created. This device type can be used with an IPDS printer. If *IPDS is selected and the spooled printer file is directed to a non-IPDS printer, the system converts the printer file to an SCS printer file.
• *LINE—line data is created. This device type can be used with IPDS printers or InfoPrint printers. *LINE spooled files require PSF/400 to print on an IPDS attached printer.
• *AFPDSLINE—mixed data (line data and AFPDS data) is created. This device type can be used with IPDS printers or InfoPrint printers. *AFPDSLINE spooled files require PSF/400 to print on an IPDS attached printer.
• *USERASCII—an ASCII data stream is placed on a spooled output queue. The user is responsible for placing the entire hexadecimal data stream in the buffer because the iSeries 400 does not change or validate the values that are passed.
• *AFPDS—an advanced function print data stream (AFPDS) is created. Spooled files require PSF/400 to print on an IPDS attached printer or Host Print Transform to print on an ASCII attached printer.

The page length that is used by this printer file. Valid values range from 1 - 255. The value specified must not exceed the actual length of the forms used.

The printer character density, in characters per inch (CPI). Values are:

• 5—the tape format is QIC525, which is used for 1/4 inch cartridge tapes that hold 525 megabytes of data.
• 10—character density is 10 characters per inch.
• 12—character density is 12 characters per inch.
• 13.3—character density is 13.3 characters per inch. Used only for double-byte character set printers.
• 15—character density is 15 characters per inch.
• 16.7—character density is 16.7 characters per inch.
• 18—character density is 18 characters per inch. Used only on double-byte character set printers.
• 20—the tape format is QIC120, which is used for 1/4 inch cartridge tapes that hold 120 megabytes of data.

The line spacing setting on the printer (in lines per inch) used by this device file. Values are:

• 3—this value is valid only for double-byte character set (DBCS) printers.
• 4
• 6—this is the default value for this parameter on the CRTPRTF command.
• 7.5—this value is valid only for double-byte character set (DBCS) printers.
• 8—when printing double-byte character set (DBCS) data for a file specified with LPI(8), use double spacing. Otherwise, the DBCS data does not print correctly. Alphanumeric data, however, prints correctly in single spacing when LPI(8) is specified.

The printer output print quality for the corresponding file. Values are:

• *STD—standard quality.
• *DEVD—the printer's default print quality.
• *DRAFT—draft print quality.
• *NLQ—near letter quality (highest).
• *FASTDRAFT—fast draft print quality (lowest).

The source drawer used when single-cut sheets are fed into the printer. Valid values range from 1 - 255 or:

• *E1—the envelope drawer on the sheet-feed paper handler.
• *FORMDF—the source drawer specified in the form definition. If a form definition is not specified, then source drawer 1 is used.

The font identifier represents the printer font that is used with this printer device file. The system automatically sets the font identifier if one is not specified. Values are:

• *CPI—uses the specified pitch, characters per inch.
• *DEVD—the font identifier specified in the device description is used.

The point size used with this printer device file. The system automatically sets the point size if one is not specified. The point size ranges from 0.1 - 999.9 or:

• *NONE—the point size is supplied by the system and is determined by the specified font identifier.

The name of the coded font. A coded font is an AFP resource that is composed of a character set and a code page.

• *FNTCHRSET—the font specified on the FNTCHRSET parameter (specifies a downloaded font consisting of a character set and code page). For an outline font, a point size is required. For a raster font, the point size is ignored. This parameter can only be used for printer files with Printer Device Type (*AFPDS).

The name of the library that contains the coded font.

• *LIBL—all libraries in the job's library list are searched until the first font match is found.
• *CURLIB—the current library for the job is searched. If no library is specified as the current library for the job, the QGPL library is used.

The coded font point size ranging from 0.1 - 999.9 or:

• *NONE—the coded point size is supplied by the system and is determined by the specified coded font identifier.

The degree of rotation for the text on the page with respect to the way the form is loaded into the printer. Values are:

• *Auto—the output is automatically rotated to fit the printed data on the form. If the printed data does not fit on the form after automatic rotation has been applied, computer output reduction is performed automatically. This parameter is valid only for printers supporting rotation.
• *DEVD—the system sends a device default rotation value to the printer. Page rotation is dependent on your printer's specifications.
• *COR—computer output reduction is done. Computer output reduction reduces printed output intended for a 13.2 inch by 11.0 inch form to be printed on an 11 inch by 8.5 inch form.
• 0—no rotation is done. Printing starts at the edge that is loaded into the printer first, and runs parallel to that edge.
• 90—the text is rotated 90 degrees clockwise from the 0 degree writing position.
• 180—the text is rotated 180 degrees clockwise from the 0 degree writing position.
• 270—the text is rotated 270 degrees clockwise from the 0 degree writing position.

Whether the output is printed on one side or duplex (both sides) of the paper. Values are:

• *NO—the document is printed on one side.
• *YES—the document is printed on both sides. The top of the first side of the page is on the same end as the top on the second side of the page.
• *TUMBLE—the document is printed on both sides. The top of the first side of the page is opposite the top on the second side of the page.
• *FORMDF—the output is printed on both sides if the duplex value is specified in the form definition. If a form definition is not specified, then the output is printed on one side.

The name of the front side overlay to use. The file contains both the overlay that is printed on the front side of the page and the offset, down and across values used when printing the overlay.

• *NONE—no overlay is used.

The name of the library that contains the overlay.

• *LIBL—all libraries in the job's library list are searched until the first match is found.
• *CURLIB—the current library for the job is searched. If no library is specified as the current library for the job, the QGPL library is used.

The offset down value identifying the point of origin to begin printing the overlay. If the unit of measure is specified in centimeters, valid values range from 0 - 57.79. If the unit of measure is specified in inches, valid values range from 0 - 22.57.

• 0—the format of this tape is FMT3570. The data format is written on the tape volume with a 3570 device.

The offset across value identifying the point of origin to begin printing the overlay. If the unit of measure specified is in centimeters, valid values range from 0 - 57.79. If the unit of measure specified is in inches, valid values range from 0 - 22.57.

• 0—the format of this tape is FMT3570. The data format is written on the tape volume with a 3570 device.

The name of the back side overlay to use. The file contains both the overlay that is printed on the back side of the page and the offset, down and across values used when printing the overlay.

• *FRONTOVL—the values that are specified on the FRONTOVL parameter are used.
• *NONE—no overlay is used.

The name of the library containing the overlay.

• *LIBL—all libraries in the job's library list are searched until the first match is found.
• *CURLIB—the current library for the job is searched. If no library is specified as the current library for the job, the QGPL library is used.

The offset across value identifying the point of origin to begin printing the overlay. If the unit of measure specified is in centimeters, valid values range from 0 - 57.79. If the unit of measure specified is in inches, valid values range from 0 - 22.57.

• 0—the format of this tape is FMT3570. The data format is written on the tape volume with a 3570 device.

• *JOB—uses the output queue specified in the job description.
• *DEV—the output queue associated with the printer specified on the Printer (DEV) parameter is used. The output queue has the same name as the printer.

The name of the library containing the spooled output queue.

• *LIBL—all libraries in the job's library list are searched until the first match is found.
• *CURLIB—the current library for the job is used to locate the output queue. If no library is specified as the current library for the job, the QGPL library is used.

Indicates whether the spooled file is held. A held spooled file can be released by using the Release Spooled File (RLSSPLF) command.

• *NO—the spooled printer file is not held by the output queue. The spooled output is available to a writer based on the SCHEDULE parameter value.
• *YES—the spooled file is held until released by the Release Spool File (RLSSPLF) command.
