About Default Labor Rates
When you add labor hours to a work order, the system will determine the default labor rate/ hour based on the Status (or cash code) of the work order segment.
-
Customer work orders are cash code 5
-
Warranty work orders are cash code 7
-
Internal work orders are cash code 8
After establishing the work order status/ cash code, the system will use the following hierarchies to determine the default labor rate/hour:
Note: Regardless of the work order status/ cash code, you may override the default labor rate/hour by manually entering the rate when adding labor hours to the work order. The information contained in this document is only pertinent when no labor rate has been manually keyed into the system.
Note: Regardless of the work order status/ cash code, any Premium Codes associated to your location will be added to the labor rate/hour when generating an invoice for the work order. Premium code amounts will not appear when adding labor hours to a work order and are only configurable through the PREMIUM table of the legacy application.

Customer work orders use the following hierarchy to determine the default labor rate/hour:
-
If a Labor Pricing record exists for the selected work order Type, the Customer or the Location of the work order, the system will use the amount entered in the Percentage/ Price field of the Labor Pricing screen as the default labor rate/hour.
In this example, if a work order is created using type FC, the default labor rate/hour would be $66.00.
Labor Pricing screen
If there is no Labor Pricing record for the selected Type, Customer or Location of the work order, the system will continue to step 2 of the hierarchy.
Note: If more than one labor pricing record matches the criteria of the work order (Type, Customer, or Location), the labor pricing record with the Special Price field selected will take precedence over the others. If all (or none) of the labor pricing records have the Special Price field selected, the labor pricing record created for the specific work order Type will take precedence over the others.
-
If a Rate Code is selected for the segment and a Labor Rate has been configured for that Rate Code, the system will use the amount entered in the Labor Rate field of the Rates screen as the default labor rate/hour.
In this example, if rate code N is used on a work order, the default labor rate/hour would be $65.00.

If a Rate Code is not selected for the segment or there is no Labor Rate configured for the selected Rate Code, the system will continue to step 3 of the hierarchy.
-
If the system cannot establish a rate/hour based on a Labor Pricing record or Rate Code, the default rate/hour will be the amount configured in the Work Order Rate Per Hour field on the Service Information tab of the Employee Profile for the technician on the segment.
In this example, if the work order is assigned to technician 00226, the default labor rate/ hour would be $70.75.

Warranty work orders use the following hierarchy to determine the default labor rate/hour:

If the system cannot establish a rate/hour based on a Labor Pricing record or Rate Code, the default rate/hour will be the amount configured in the LABOR RATE/ HOUR field for CASH CODE 7 in the CASHTAB table of the legacy application.
CASHTAB table
If there is no amount configured in the LABOR RATE/ HOUR field for CASH CODE 7, the system will continue to step 4 of the hierarchy.
Note: The labor rate/hour for cash code 7 is only configurable through the legacy application. If you want to change the value in this field but do not have access to the legacy application, speak to your system administrator.
-
If the system cannot establish a default labor rate/ hour from any other part of the system, the default rate/hour will be the amount configured in the Work Order Rate Per Hour field on the Service Information tab of the Employee Profile for the technician on the segment.
In this example, if the work order is assigned to technician 00226, the default labor rate/ hour would be $70.75.
