IntelliDealer can calculate sales taxes for transactions using tax and exempt codes. It supports four tax codes to support jurisdictions that impose taxes at a non-state level. However, as dealers continue to grow from single store entities to multi-location, multi-state entities, it can be difficult for them to keep up-to-date with new taxes as well as tax rate changes.
Avalara is a service provider that specializes in tax calculations. VitalEdge has partnered with Avalara to eliminate the need for dealers to maintain tax codes. This is a licensed feature within IntelliDealer. Contact your VitalEdge account representative for more details.
IntelliDealer uses an XML protocol to submit the necessary information (such as dealership address, ship to address, type of good being sold, type of customer, and so on) to Avalara. In return, Avalara provides the exact tax details to be collected for the invoice. Dealers can use Avalara's AvaTax product to reduce maintenance, improve accuracy, and ensure compliance with tax laws. Dealers still need to maintain product codes, and maintain customer tax exemptions.
