AvaTax: Service Down

Avalara is committed to providing a minimum service up-time of 99.5%. You can check the current status of the AvaTax service and sign up for notifications on this website: https://status.avalara.com

Under the rare circumstance that the AvaTax system is down, the user is prompted for the taxes. IntelliDealer suggests the taxes for the overall invoice. The user can adjust and/or add taxes as required. Each detail line can also be marked as exempt, based on the line number beside the tax. Checking exempt causes no change in the amount of tax but is used within the AvaTax reporting system to identify which lines were excluded from the manual tax calculation.

The billing run always uses the information specified on this screen and does not attempt to recalculate unless either the Batch button was used in Parts Invoicing, or this is a Rental or General Invoicing Billing Run.

It is possible that the AvaTax service could be down when the billing run attempts to communicate the transactions to Avalara. In that case, the billing run/RTP still processes the transaction normally (accounting, etc.) but the AvaTax entry is coded as incomplete and is communicated at 11 pm the following evening or manually. See AvaTax: Offline Logging.

For the Rental and General Invoicing Billing Runs, an extra step is performed at the very beginning of the run to update the taxes for the invoices being generated. If the process fails at this stage due to a communication problem, the billing run is aborted and the transactions are processed the next time the billing run is executed.
