Parts Suffix and how it works on Price Update
Description: There is an option on a price update to use a suffix. The option is somewhat dangerous so caution needs to be used before trying to use this feature (see especially point #4).
Solution:
The suffix option is on the price update screen here:
Enter Desired Option:
1. Print Price Update Impact Report - No Update Or Load
2. Update Prices And/Or Load Master Price File............?
Enter Desired Percentage Cutoff................................?
Print Return Code Change Report (Y or N).......................?
Print Parts Not Found Report (Y or N)..........................?
Enter the Suffix to be Applied.................................?
Sort By Class (Y or N).........................................?
Some things to keep in mind about the suffix option:
1. In order for the program to look at the suffix, the user MUST say Yes to the 'Sort by Class' option on the screen above. If they say No the suffix entered will be ignored.
2. The suffix is not saved anywhere and must be specified every time.
3. The system will take the suffix off of the parts on the part master and match them to the price file. So, for example if you have a W337 on the price file, but a W337A on your system, you would need to run the update with a suffix of A. The system will update the PARTMAST for this vendor by adding the A to the end of all parts in the list and matching to the PARTMAST accordingly assuming the vendor and vendor code match.
4. The program will not add the suffix to the parts in the price file (PARTPRC file). It will take the price file supplied by the vendor and load those part numbers into the PARTPRC. This means that when quick adding parts if the user wants to add a suffix they will have to manually add the parts since there is no entry in the price file that will match the part.
5. EPC interfaces do NOT support use of a suffix so if you have any ordering or transmission to your vendor you should not use a suffix. Currently we do not strip out the suffix in transmissions so the vendor part number will not match up to ours and it will cause issues on ordering, returns, etc, if you try to use a suffix with any kind of interface.
