Security Switch Overview
Security switches provide control over access to the various parts of IntelliDealer. Areas of functionality in IntelliDealer are organized into systems, and each system has a set of switches that can be enabled or disabled through checkboxes. You can manage security switch settings by user group, or for an individual user.
Field level security controls access to an single IntelliDealer field to either prevent a user from changing information or from seeing the information in the field and it is only applicable to these IntelliDealer systems: Customer Profile, Equipment Profile, Parts Profile, and Vendor Profile. Location level security is set per system, and controls which company, division, or location the user or user group settings are applicable for. The level of location security varies per system, where some may only provide control at the division level and not the location level.
Terms used when working with switches:
-
System—a area of IntelliDealer functionality.
-
Switch—a setting that enables or disables specific areas of IntelliDealer.
-
User Group—a set of users that all receive the same access to IntelliDealer. If required, this can be further refined per individual using Field Level security.
Example Usage
When using switches, consider the roles of the people using IntelliDealer. For example, you may have technicians, accountants, and salespersons. People in these roles can be assigned to a User Group which is configured with access to the systems in IntelliDealer related to that role. You may give technicians access to IntelliTech and some parts of Product Support, the accountants access to Financial Management systems, and the salespeople access to the other parts of Product Support.
You can then refine the access by location if required. For example, technicians only need access for the location at which they work. But accountants might need access to accounts for the entire company.
